Timaru Community Christmas Dinner is short of a cook – someone who can lead the kitchen team and ensure the festive fare is served with all the trimmings.
Sharon Mackay, the main organiser of this year’s event, said finding the right person for the job was a priority.
“We’re still looking for a confident person to take charge of the kitchen and work with the team. They don’t have to do all the work. It’s delegation, so it’s not onerous,” she said.
Bookings for this year’s event, taking place at the Caroline Bay hall on December 25, were open, which was “very exciting”, she said.
So far, 30 people have booked. Mrs Mackay encourages anyone else wanting to join in the festive celebrations to book early to avoid disappointment. The person taking bookings is Melissa Brennan.
Other roles also filled, included donations co-ordinator,being looked after by Sharon Morrison, while Adele Garry and Kelcey Parish would take on some of the kitchen duties and Andrea Lord would be “front of house”.
Mrs Mackay said a van would be available for people requiring transport to and from the venue; those wanting to use this service should confirm this when making their dinner booking.
She said Timaru businesses and individuals, which were well known for their generosity, were being urged to support the cause once again, particularly with donations of money and food.
“Once again we do have a wish list, which will be on [our] Facebook [page].
“Cash is always very welcome – small donations right through to large donations are wanted and needed.”
The group would also like to touch base with one of last year’s diners – a wooden toy-maker who offered to supply some of his creations for children at this year’s event.
“If he would make contact we would gratefully appreciate it,” Mrs Mackay said.
