Gymnastics is on a roll

Good things take time. Just ask the dedicated group of volunteers who have established the Geraldine Gymnastics Club.
The club hosted its first session two weeks ago but has been a work in progress since late 2015. It is now fully subscribed for 2016.
Chairwoman Trudie Banks and a team of volunteers formed the group, which had 40 children in its first session at the Geraldine Primary School hall.
The club runs two age-based sessions for boys and girls each week during term three and aims to operate over two school terms from 2017 onwards.
Mrs Banks said she was proud of the coaching team.
‘‘We were thrilled with the positive response from people with a passion for gymnastics offering uptheir time and expertise. Quite a number of the coaching team are trained teachers, including two male teachers, offering great role models,’’ she said.
Parent Andrea Worner was impressed with how well organised the gym coaches were.
‘‘The children had a fantastic first lesson and the committee did an amazing job getting the whole thing off the ground.’’
Mrs Banks said the club appreciated the support of Waihi School, which provided a venue and allowed teacher Stuart Wilcox, the head coach, time away from school for coaching.
‘‘Waihi School have been a tremendous help to us and we are very grateful for that,’’ Mrs Banks said. ‘‘Geraldine Primary School has also been brilliant in . .. allowing the club to use their equipment.’’Sport mediaSneakers
