Geraldine residents are getting ready to open their doors for the biennial Geraldine Home and Kitchen Trail.

The popular event, hosted by the Geraldine Home and Kindergarten committee, will be held on September 17.

Committee secretary Jo Hewson is among those looking forward to the trail, which will feature 10 properties and 11 kitchens, including those that have been renovated, rebuilt and repurposed.

“It’s a little bit different this year,” Ms Hewson said.

“Previously it has been mainly [homes in] town and new builds or renovations. But, we thought, let’s make it an outing,” she said.

The concept was also in response to feedback received from previous organising committees that there were so many homes, participants felt the need to rush through the trail.

With that in mind, the committee has ventured out of town for this year’s event, which will take place over three hours.

this year, in contrast to about 15 in previous years, to allow for more driving time, Ms Hewson said.

While many of the homes would feature renovated properties, some were also new builds.

Participants will also be treated to a range of activities at some of the properties, including a silent auction, a cake stall and complementary afternoon refreshments.

One of the home owners, an artist, will also have some of her works on display.

Tickets to the event will be available from Eventfinda, Jennian Homes in Timaru and Ashburton, Geraldine Kindergarten, The Pin Tin and Parkside Dairy.

“For those really last-minute ticket sales, we’ll be selling them at Geraldine Kindergarten from 12pm to 1pm on the day of the trail.”

Money raised from the event will go back to the kindergarten for playground and outdoor resources, Ms Hewson said.

The Geraldine Home and Kitchen Trail is held every two years and has been running since 2004.Buy SneakersAir Jordan
