Various South Canterbury organisations have been allocated grants by the Community Trust of Mid and South Canterbury.

The trust, in its first round of allocations for 2018, gave a total of $54,805 to 12 applicants.

This included $10,000 for Presbyterian Support South Canterbury’s foodbank, $1443 for the Timaru Squash Racquets Club to install a new woodburner and $1225 for Waimate Toy Library’s two new bouncy castles.

The Mackenzie Lakes Coastguard also received $2000 for operational costs.

Timaru-based education provider Learning for You and the New Zealand Council of Victim Support Groups each received $5000 for volunteer and co-ordinator costs.

Presbyterian Support South Canterbury fundraising manager Katerina Tiscenko said the organisation was “thrilled” by its $10,000 donation.

“As we approach the winter months and higher power bills, it’s tougher for families already struggling on limited budgets,” she said.

“There are times when the families we work with need an extra hand and with foodbank supplies we can help bridge a gap until more long-term solutions are found.”

A range of Ashburton groups and organisations also received grants.
