Financial help for non-profits

Not-for-profit organisations in the region can now get help with their books.
Volunteering Mid and South Canterbury launched its new community accounts service for not-for-profit organisations yesterday, taking away the often stressful task of dealing with finances.
Volunteering Mid and South Canterbury co-ordinator Louise Billinghurst was excited about the new service, which “fitted” in well with her accounting background.
Ms Billinghurst, a former Dunedin accountant, said a lot of little clubs and groups were looking for somebody as their treasurer, and the new service would help this.
The accounts service could help clubs and groups with a range of financial tasks, including entering transactions in a cash book, receiving and collating monthly invoices, providing a mentoring service for treasurers, budget reports, working with payrolls and filing charities services or company office annual reports.
Ms Billinghurst said the service would help non-profit groups fill the often “difficult” treasurer role and would free up members’ time to complete grant and funding applications.
