Entries are now open for the 2017 Ursula Moray Williams Creative Writing Competition.
The competition, which is run by Timaru District Libraries, is open to South Canterbury young peoplein years 1 to 13, or, if home-schooled, are aged 5 to 18.
The Ursula Moray Williams Cup will be awarded to the best story in the years 1 to 8 categories and The Friends of the Library Cup will be awarded to the best story in the years 9 to 13 categories.
Ursula Moray Williams was an English children’s author who visited Timaru in 1980 and donated a cup for a creative writing competition. She died in 2006.
There are five categories: years 1 to 3, 4 to 6, 7 and 8, 9 and 10 and 11 to 13. Entrants need to write an original story of no more than 500 words on any subject.
Entry forms are available at Timaru District Libraries or may be downloaded from www.timarudistrictlibraries.co.nz.
Young writers then need to hand their entries into the Timaru, Temuka or Geraldine Libraries, email them to firstname.lastname@example.org or post them to Youth Services Team Leader, Timaru District Libraries, PO Box 228, Timaru 7940. Entries close at 5pm on October 27.
