Classic motorbikes were out in force when the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride returned to Timaru last week.
The event, designed to promote men’s health, attracted 20 riders who each raised money for the fundraising initiative Movember.
Richard Brown and Jonty Penney planned the Timaru event after initially planning to take part in the Christchurch ride.
After realising it was not going ahead in the city last year, they planned their own instead.
As a result, South Canterbury now has a group of avid motorcycle enthusiasts supporting the cause locally.
“There was a good turnout,” Mr Brown said.
“There ended up being 30 registered, but 20 riders took part,” he said.
The riders toured the Timaru area, enjoyed a barbecue and spent time checking out the various models of bikes used for the occasion.
The outing proved a success for Mr Brown and Mr Penney, with a combined total of $2166 raised by Tuesday morning.
Those efforts contributed to the $4.4million raised worldwide.
People travelled from as far as Geraldine and Peel Forest to take part in the Timaru event. Worldwide, the initiative had 92,000 riders registered.
