Deluge drenches Timaru

Heavy rain in Timaru caused plenty of flooding around the South Canterbury town yesterday.

32.2mm of rain fell across parts of South Canterbury, including Timaru, on Wednesday, causing surface flooding across town, including Canada St and the intersection at Selwyn and Douglas Sts.

Caroline Bay’s playground was also under a lot of water by 9am and fire crews were out tending to some of the most affected areas.

Another area under water was the BP Showgrounds site, which is prone to flooding during heavy rainfall.

The Courier ventured out into the downpour, which was filmed by reporter Alexia Johnston.
