Timaru’s Presbyterian parish is cooking up a sense of community for Parkside residents.
The group will host a barbecue and gathering at Trinity Hall, College Rd, on Sunday, with the aim of finding out how people in that part of town want their community to develop.
Church team leader and senior pastor the Rev Brent Richardson welcomes people of all ages to join in the event, which would also feature a bouncy castle for children to play on.
He said the idea was people could write their ideas on paper or discuss them with organisers of the event.
“We really want to put on a nice event that will be friendly and welcoming,” he said.
“We want to help get a bit more of a sense of what people enjoy about living in the Parkside area.”
The community barbecue would give people a chance to enjoy the hall, which has recently been repaired, and to find out if there were groups that could benefit from using the facility.
A range of groups, including girls’ and boys’ brigade and Rhythm Kids pre-school music, will also be featured on the day.
The event will take place on Sunday from 4pm to 6.30pm.
