Levels Raceway is booking events a year in advance, its club chairman says.
South Canterbury Car Club chairman Kevin Pateman said the raceway, which is maintained by the car club, had been very busy over the summer season, which wrapped up at the weekend.
“[We are] booking 12 months in advance.”
Mr Pateman said while the summer season had ended, other small events would continue at the track throughout the winter.
“It’s been very busy.”
Events in the past few months had included the 2018 New Zealand Superbike Championships in January, the Southern Classic in February, the Trust Aoraki Super Truck Race meeting on March 2-4 and the NZ Xtreme Motorsport drifting series the following weekend.
The club had also played host to a weekend full of events in late January as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.
However, there had been more than just racing events on the track, with rollerskating, cycling and fun runs held throughout the summer season, he said.
There were also regular driver training sessions held on the tarmac.
Mr Pateman said the variety of events attracting visitors from out of town was good for local businesses and accommodation providers.
“It puts money in the local economy.”
The track also put money in the coffers of Heart Kids South Canterbury, which does the gatekeeping for the events.
