The Bidwill Trust Hospital is expanding by adding consulting rooms.
Chairman Mark Hervey said the more than $820,000 investment was an exciting development for the hospital.
The new rooms would be constructed by redeveloping existing ground floor space in the hospital and extending the hospital to the north, he said.
“The development will bring nine surgeons on to the hospital site … [benefiting] patients, surgeons and the hospital.”
He said this meant Bidwill could be a “one-stop shop”.
Mr Hervey said he was delighted to announce that the E.G. and D.M. Kerr Trust had made a substantial donation to the hospital in support of the project.
Trust spokesman Tim Austin said it was a great pleasure for the trust to be involved.
“It was the wish of Mrs D.M. (Peggy) Kerr to assist the people of South Canterbury, specifically in relation to poverty, medical assistance, research and education.”
The consulting rooms will occupy 450sq m of space, providing new premises for Aorangi Surgical Group and South Canterbury Surgeons.
NB Architects designed the consulting rooms and Henderson Building Ltd has been awarded the contract.
The project will take seven months to build and the planned completion date is June 2018.
