Temuka Embroidery Guild members celebrated the group’s 21st anniversary on Monday.
More than 50 past and present members gathered at the Trinity Temuka Church hall for the celebrations on Monday afternoon.
Founding member Jill Austin said the group had 36 members but was always open to new people joining its weekly gatherings.
While members often brought their own projects to work on, the guild also had guest tutors come along, Mrs Austin said.
The group was made up of mainly older residents but the craft was still popular, as demonstrated by the fact there was another guild in Waimate and others throughout New Zealand, she said.
“There’s a lot of people [who] still do it.”
Mrs Austin said she found out about the group through a newspaper advertisement back in 1996 and had been hooked ever since.
She especially enjoyed the fellowship of the guild.
“[It is] just a really friendly group.”
Fellow member Alwyn Friend agreed.
“We have lots of fun.”
