Timaru’s Advocacy Group will host a workshop on anxiety tomorrow.

Two of the group’s members, Alexia Bensemann and Cathy Maslin, will speak at the “exploring anxiety” workshop at 1pm tomorrow.

The group had held a similar workshop about two years ago, which attracted about 25 people.

Ms Maslin said the free session would include personal stories about the mental illness, as well as time for those attending to ask questions, while Miss Bensemann would provide tips on how people could manage their anxiety.

“[It] worked quite well having both perspectives.”

Ms Maslin said some people who attended the initial workshop had never sought help for dealing with their anxiety disorder, so the session had helped in “demystifying” it.

Miss Bensemann said while beginning to understand and seek help for a mental illness could feel like opening a “can of worms”, it was important for people in the long run.

If you are interested in attending the Exploring Anxiety workshop at St Mary’s Church hall from 1-3pm on Friday, contact Ruth Swale on socialjusticeadvocate@anglicanlife.org.nz or 021 134-0307 to book.
