When was the last time you explored your local library and had a chat with the knowledgeable and friendly staff?
If it has been some time, you may be surprised by what we have to offer you.
Who uses libraries? The question is more like who doesn’t use libraries? The quick answer used to be teenagers. Not any more. From preschoolers with mum or dad, right through to retired people, we are the community resource for everyone.
Everyone in South Canterbury has the opportunity to belong to the Timaru District Libraries: Temuka, Geraldine and Timaru.
We enable access to information; we encourage literacy and learning; we share local stories. In particular, we aim to respond to the needs of our local community. Safe spaces are provided for literacy and learning. Staff members offer support and help, and encourage a love of reading.
Your library has a diverse collection of resources, both in hardcopy and online. There is free access to an exciting range of eBooks and eAudiobooks, CDs, DVDs, magazines, audio books and much more.
Communities have changed and libraries have changed. We have evolved to meet the needs of a world that has become increasingly reliant on technology. Our libraries offer free access to wifi and computers to access the internet.
The World Wide Web is not an encyclopedia of high quality or trusted information. There’s a lot of low quality and inaccurate material out there. Library staff can teach people to tell the good from the bad and help you to access the best material for your needs.
Libraries today help people to connect with their local community and the wider world. Connecting with your library is an investment in your future.
