The curtain will soon go up on the South Canterbury Drama League’s latest event, Showstoppers 2.
Cast members have spent countless hours preparing for the show and are now dedicating some of their time to promote the event, which included a sing-out at the Timaru Library earlier this week.
Showstoppers production committee chairman Chris Thomas said the cast includes about 40 children, representing almost every school in Timaru.
“The kids have been working really hard and are just fizzing and wanted to show off the singing and performing skills they have been learning over the last six weeks.”
To do that, some of the cast ventured to the Timaru Library and The Warehouse on Tuesday morning.
The children, aged from 6 to 18, are part of a much larger cast of 80, which will put on four live performances of Showstoppers 2 in the Timaru Theatre Royal from July 20-22.
The show is a musical spectacular that features hit songs from the latest and greatest Broadway musicals, Mr Thomas said.
“All of the musicals featured in Showstoppers 2 have never been performed by the South Canterbury Drama League.”
The programme includes three items from the hit musical Matilda, which is based on the book by Roald Dahl, along with 50 other numbers from hit musicals, including Mary Poppins, Aladdin, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, Hairspray, Miss Saigon, The Lion King and Billy Elliot, among others.affiliate link traceNike
