Dancing, music and colourful traditional Indian dress were all on show at the Timaru Diwali celebrations at the Southern Trust Events Centre on Saturday evening. The Hindu festival of light was celebrated in South Canterbury at its largest scale to date, featuring children’s performances, a catered meal and a “cultural tour” of India by way of dance and other presentations from different districts around India. The Courier reporter Greta Yeoman attended the event, which was organised by the South Canterbury Indian Cultural Society.
