The toe-tapping sound of swing and jazz wafted through central Timaru streets last Friday morning.

Mountainview High School band Bring On The Chops, was providing some entertainment, with the hope also of earning a dollar or two.

“It’s fun and great to get money as well,” trumpet player Joshua Lovely said.

“The money goes to the band and I’m saving for a trumpet too.”

The band had played on Strathallan Corner near the Bob Fitzsimmons statue over the summer.

And what about the band’s name, Bring On The Chops?

“There’s a band called Lunch Chops our name from that,” Joshua said.
