Delicate works by South Canterbury Pottery Group members are ready for their big reveal.
The one-off, hand-crafted pieces adorning part of Timaru’s York Street Gallery of Fine Art are part of a combined exhibition to be launched on Friday night.
The collection will include works by about 12 of the group’s 50 members, featuring wheel thrown bowls and pots.
Group president Hayley Larsen said the estimated 60 creations had a strong practical aspect to them and were created by those who were busy with a range of other projects, including the renovation of the group’s rooms on White St, Timaru.
“We are very fortunate to have a rental home. It was purchased by the original founding members [and] we’ve had to put all our time and attention in to refurbishing the house.”
However, as the saying goes “where there is a will, there is a way” and the members have produced plenty of items for the public to admire over the coming weeks.
“The focus has been on getting our work out in time for buying for Christmas, so there’s a lot of smaller pieces.”
The exhibition opens on Friday 25 November.
