May is New Zealand Music Month and The Courier has created a music-themed Five Questions series to mark the annual event. First up to face the Q&A is Moana Maniapoto, of Moana and the Moahunters fame, who is set to perform at Twizel’s Events Centre on May 15.

Q. First album you owned?

Ready to Deal (Renee Geyer) is one of the first I can recall.

Q. What’s your musical guilty pleasure?

’80s dance styles!!! Rose Royce. Mary Jane Girls, Parliament, Kool & the Gang, Earth Wind & Fire, Chic etc.

Q. Who are your favourite NZ musicians/bands (five max)?

Warren Maxwell, Louis Baker, Jakob, Alien Weaponry, Pitch Black (very blokey innit?)

Q. If you had to listen to just one New Zealand song forever, what would it be?

Q. Most recent concert/gig by a NZ musician that you’ve been to?

The Toku Reo concert (Auckland Arts Festival) – Hinewehi Mohi, Maisey Rika, Stan Walker and a bunch of others including me and my band.
