Timaru theatregoers are about to be transported back to the 1970s.
The South Canterbury Drama League’s production of Mamma Mia! opens tomorrow night at the Theatre Royal, running until July 30.
As part of showtime fun for the Wednesday evening production of the musical based on the songs of ABBA, audience members are encouraged to wear their best ’70s garb.
League musical theatre chairman Aaron Segar said the midweek show had been designated the official dressup performance.
‘‘We want the theatre to be full of dazzling disco outfits from the 1970s.
‘‘We’d love the audience to get into the fun and friendship of the show and the timeless spirit of the ABBA songs everyone knows.’’
While Wednesday night was the official dress-up night for audience members, Segar said every night of the production could see theatregoers wearing their best ’70s gear.
‘‘Every night of Mamma Mia! the audience are encouraged to dress up and we hope they do.
‘‘Of course, you don’t have to dress up on Wednesday. Come and enjoy the show in whatever you feel comfortable in.’’ – Tickets are available atwww.iticket.co.nz or by phoning 0508 iTICKET.
