Timaru students from Pavithra Ravi’s Indian dance school are set to perform at a community event next weekend.
Ravi’s Zealandia Academy of Indian Arts launched in Timaru just over a year ago, and now, a year on, local students are set to take to the stage of the Savage Club Hall on September 14.
The popularity of last year’s launch had prompted Ravi to make the event ticketed but, due to sponsorship, tickets are free – people just had to contact her to order them.
The “Erasing Boundaries of Indian Arts” would include performances from five of her 12 Timaru-based students, as well as others who were coming down from Christchurch to perform.
Ravi travels to Christchurch on a weekly basis to hold Indian dance classes up there.
She would also be performing a dance with her mother, who is also a trained dancer and will be visiting from India at the time of the event.
The performances are set to begin at 6pm on Saturday, September 14, but people would be welcome to come along from 5.30pm for Indian snacks and tea, Ravi said.
For free tickets, contact Pavithra Ravi on 0218544270 or 0224699089.
The event will be held at Savage Club Hall, 14 Dee St, in Timaru.
