Spokeswoman Jeni Logan said it had been looking at ways to brighten the CBD and came up with the idea of using artwork.

Year 10 pupils at Timaru Girls’ High School worked on one artwork which has gone into the GroundFLOOR shop, while teacher Linda Trainor provided five works from her personal collection for the Butterfields shop windows.

Three large-scale murals are also to be painted around the CBD involving Alive Vibrant Timaru, the Civic Trust and CBD group.

“It’s all about bringing art and life into the black areas,” Ms Logan said.
